Description

The Kind Schools team believe the development of resilience and kindness contributes to building a holistic picture of psychological well-being and resilience in our young people.

Since 2013, Resilient Youth Australia (RYA) has been surveying the mental health of our young people using validated international gold standard scales, resulting in peer-reviewed publications and key findings.

To date, RYA has surveyed the mental health of over 700,000 young Australians aged 7 -19 years of age, plus an increasing number of students in New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Southeast Asia.

More recently Kind Schools as an extension of RYA has launched to support schools and youth organisations to facilitate kindness in education, fund kindness grants and provide resources to therapists and educators to teach and promote kindness values.

Kind Schools is currently researching the impact kindness has on our psychological wellness and how young people perceive, value and benefit from kindness attributes.

An overview of the importance of kindness and its reported benefits will be shared, referencing our youth survey data and current findings.

Our research has contributed to the development of our Kindness Model which will be shared within a therapeutic framework that will provide a useful perspective to professionals working with young people.

Emphasis will then shift to providing implications of our research findings and developing practical recommendations for therapists working with young clients and their families.
