Description

In this deeply polarized and uncertain world, we’re bombarded with cues of danger that cause us either to react in anger and fear or to retreat in despair. Unchecked, these habitual responses are what can lead many to get stuck and seek therapy. Fortunately, our nervous system has a pathway to regulation, and the ability to come home to safety is accessible to us—if only we can find our way. In this session, we’ll explore how to help clients find their way to safety and experiment with practices that support individual and communal well-being. You’ll discover how to:

  • Use the “glimmer practice” tool to help clients find predictable and unpredictable micro-moments in their lives in which they can access regulation
  • Use images, sounds, scents, touch, and movements to safely explore survival states
  • Get beneath a client’s symptoms to listen to the story the nervous system is telling, which can reveal how we can work to reshape it
  • Use the “state creates story” practice to safely take clients through regulated and dysregulated states in order to reshape our narrative of safety and survival
