When you work with clients who live with conditions like Cerebral Palsy, Autism, ADHD, and Down Syndrome, it’s a whole new challenge.

Your clients struggle more than the average kid when it comes to processing emotions and physical sensations – they can’t always make friends, and don’t know how to regulate their emotions, leading to meltdowns and tantrums.

Some of your clients even face motor difficulties.

And getting them to focus? That’s a whole other skillset.

That’s the thing: We ask children to pay attention but we don’t teach them how to pay attention.

For a lot of them, paying attention is difficult.

For most of them, it’s boring.

But what if you had a comprehensive training designed to show you how to use more mindful and holistic approaches to treat common behavioral and motor disorders in children?

What if you had a set of adaptable strategies that you can use with a variety of ages and settings, that also made kids excited to participate in your rehab sessions?

Social Emotional & Sensorimotor Regulation Strategies: Holistic Approaches for Anxiety, Autism, Sensory Disorders, ADHD, Developmental Disorders, Down Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy is an online program with 6 hands-on modules that break down how you can integrate yoga, mindfulness, self-management, and other stress reduction techniques that satisfy common behaviors with developmental disorders, while increasing physical function and empowering positive behavior change.

Kids who practice yoga can learn to tune into their body’s sensations, then use the techniques to address uncomfortable feelings before they get out of control. Plus, many kids get excited about this interactive strategy, making engagement easy!

Join us today and walk away feeling confident you can help children manage their impulse control, enhance their ability to focus, increase their motor skills, and bring more awareness to themselves, so they can function successfully throughout their lives.

Yoga to Improve Sensory, Self-Regulation and Motor Skills in Kids: Autism, ADHD, Developmental Disorders, Down Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy

Creating a Well-Balanced Yoga Practice
A lot of people have a basic understanding of yoga, but when you arm yourself with how yoga can change the lives of the kids in your care, everything changes. This first module will walk you through what is yoga and is not, a brief history of yoga, and most of all, the benefits of yoga for your kids. You’ll also see what pieces you can include to create a well-balanced yoga practice, so you can start feeling confident creating practices immediately.

This module will also dive into how creating mantras can positively affect your client, including soothing the body and mind - along with giving the children a fun chant to work with. You’ll dive into pranayama breathing, how it affects the nervous system, and specific breathing techniques to use to calm, focus, and rejuvenate the nervous system depending on what you need in the moment.

Some other things you’ll discover include the benefits of Asana, goals of postures, relaxation postures, meditation, and mindfulness. This module gives you the basic understanding of how to use yoga as a modality, the equipment you need, and how to make the most of it - including some fun names for kids to use!

Yoga for Kids with Special Needs
Yoga is not a one-size-fits-all, as most effective modalities aren’t, and often when we’re in yoga classes, that’s what you see. Module 2 of this training shows you how to adapt the tools of yoga for specific conditions, including alignment must-knows, how to begin and warm up, and basic poses.

Then Kathryne will walk you through sample sequences and benefits for various disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Developmental Coordination Disorder, ADD and ADHD, Down Syndrome, and Cerebral Palsy. You’ll feel confident using specific poses for each disorder, considering eye exercises, poses for rotation, poses for focus and balance, and much more with these tips on simplifying working with these client types.

Yoga for All (And What to Do When They Resist It)
As much as you may love yoga, it’s not for everyone. Some kids gravitate toward the practice easily, but as you know, not everyone goes with the flow, which is why this module focuses on working with behavior and emotional problems in kids. Trauma, among other things, can cause resistance, so preparing yourself for the possibility that the kids you see may not want to do yoga, or that some things can’t be used with kids who have faced abuse, are a must.

As your kids grow, this module will show how you can adapt these yogic tools for kids of different age groups - infants, toddlers, preschoolers, young and older school ages, and teenagers - along with different settings, like groups, individuals, the classroom, at home and in therapy.

The final module guides you through how to address resistance, how to incorporate parents, and even some yoga games to ease the transition. Kathryne also touches on asthma, diabetes, obesity, and an approach to encompass a variety of needs.
Attachment & Emotional Self-Regulation Skills for Children: Empowering Positive Behavior From the Inside Out

Self-Regulation & Attachment
Everything is connected - and the way the child in your care self-regulates is directly connected to how they’ve created their attachment patterns with adults. Self-regulation is perhaps one of the most important qualities we have, so in this intro module, you’ll discover how self-regulation skills develop gradually, and with practice it becomes automatic and internalized. The earlier you intervene, the more effective it is, and it’s always influenced by the environment.

The module demonstrates strategies on how to facilitate self-regulation in a variety of age groups, and relaxation techniques to turn on the parasympathetic nervous system. You’ll walk through the different attachment styles, how they affect behavior, and how they impact self-regulation in children - along with how they respond to anxiety and stress.

Empowering Children for Positive Behavior Change
Module 2 dives into real case studies as you discover how to use social stories to help kids learn new behaviors and skills, as well as seeing themselves differently. You’ll walk through how to integrate creative visualizations, video modeling, affirmations, a variety of mindfulness strategies, meditations, and more to:
  • Increase self-esteem and build confidence
  • Develop intrinsic motivation
  • Encourage autonomy
  • And much more
You’ll also see how to include basic discipline techniques, like rewards, praise, kind ignoring, and punishment (including alternatives to punishment).

Self-Management & Behavior Modification
The final module of this online course walks you through how to address common behaviors that are causing difficulties for kids in your care. Kathryne walks you through how to address and minimize or eliminate tantrums, increase patience, develop emotional awareness, shift energy from negative to positive, engage cooperation, address sensory problems (including proprioceptive, vestibular, and tactile strategies), eliminate common problems like those relating to sleep or eating, and even include diet modifications that are relevant to self-regulation.

Walk away feeling confident you know exactly where to start when it comes to behavior modification, how to record using the ABC method, how to form and test your behavior hypothesis, and how to create a plan that successfully addresses it.
