Description

Mindful and compassionate presence are not just trendy ideas, but have a deep history, as well as a powerful underlying physiology and neuroscience to explain them. What's more, the research and evidence are overwhelming. In this extended segment, you will discover the fascinating neuroscience behind contemplative practice, as well as simple ways to share the science with your clients. We will also explore and practice multiple techniques that you can use yourself or with clients in and out of the therapy hour.

  1. Determine the basic neuroscience underlying mindfulness and other contemplative practice
  2. Articulate the fight/flight responses as they relate to mental health and mental illness

Christopher Willard, PsyD, is a clinical psychologist, author and consultant based in Massachusetts. He has spoken in over 31 countries and has presented at two TEDx events. He is the author of 20 books, including Alphabreaths (2019), Growing Up Mindful (2016). and Feelings are Like Farts (2024). His thoughts on mental health have been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, mindful.org, cnn.com, and elsewhere. He teaches at Harvard Medical School.
