- Explore the history and development of attachment theory as it relates to clinical practice
- Question traditional therapeutic approaches and cultural norms for couples
- Describe the laws of attachment and how they apply to couple therapy
- Develop and practice effective responses to typical couple presentations
- Assess for attachment injury and trauma history in presenting couples
- Characterize the common styles of couple engagement
- Structure a supportive and secure therapy framework
- Reframe critical or angry expressions as expressions of attachment fear
- Model safe attachment as surrogate attachment figure
- Categorize interventions as appropriate for progressive stages of therapy
- Formulate potential interventions for couples in case demonstrations
- Manage common blocks or regressions in therapy
- Describe how to help clients divide overwhelming emotions into manageable experiences
